It was so dazzling that it could grant instant moksha, so the God Yama wanted to hide it in the earth, and was successful. The original image of Jagannath (a deity form of Vishnu) at the end of Treta yuga manifested near a banyan tree, near seashore in the form of an Indranila mani or the Blue Jewel. Acharya Sayana interpreted the term apurusham as same as Purushottama and this Dara wood log being an inspiration for Jagannath, thus placing the origin of Jagannath in 2nd millennium BCE.
In hymn 10.155 of the Rig veda, there is mention of a Daru (wooden log) floating in the ocean as apurusham. Lord Narasimha appeared from a wooden pillar, which Hiranyakasipu broke with his mace. All Vishnu avatar temples have idols with lotus petal shaped eyes. The worship procedures, sacraments and rituals associated with Jagannath are syncretic, and include rites that are uncommon in Hinduism. For all the nine temples it will take one and half day. If you are unable to trek there are doli's which will cost 3K for 5 temples journey in Upper Ahobilam. There are 2 more temple near to Lower Ahobilam, Chatravata Narasimha and Yogananda Narasimha. This completes 5 temples situated in Upper Ahobilam. Post having darshan we visited Shri Ahobilam Narasimha swamy temple and then to Karanja Narasimha Swamy temple. We started trekking down to Varaha Narasimha.
From there we started to Prahlad Badi(School where Prahlad studuied). Post having darshan we trekked to Malola Narsimha. We started our journey to Jwala Narsimha. Next day after having breakfast we started our journey to temples located in Upper Ahobilam. After 13 kms while coming back there is a deviation which will lead to Bharagav Narasimha. We started to Pavana Narsimha by local jeep which is deep in forest and is almost 15 Kms. 4 temples in lower Ahobilam and 5 in upper Ahobilam. There are nine temples in Ahobilam(both lower and upper).
